Cucumbers

A pile of cucumbers on a dark table becomes a way for Jeff to speak about craftsmanship. Their cool freshness is an ordinary beauty, but bringing that quality into paint depends on a language learned through practice. He regards craft as the foundation that allows an artistic thought to be expressed clearly.

Cucumbers carries that conviction into a modest subject. Jeff sees the same relationship between mastery and expression in music, cooking, dance, and architecture. The painter's tools make it possible to pursue the essence of what has been seen, even in something as familiar as vegetables on a table.
