Empty Vessels

Jeff spent days choosing and rearranging the objects in Empty Vessels before beginning to paint. An antique sauna pail, chipped paint, and the subdued sheen of carved wood offered color, texture, and a sense of history. He kept working until their relationships formed a composition worth pursuing.

The painting continued to reveal itself over six to nine months of looking and refinement. What began with carefully selected objects gradually became an exploration of light itself. By the end, Jeff saw the vessels as containers for that light, their individual identities yielding to the whole.
