Fish on Tin

The rippled surface of an old tin mold becomes a small sea for a golden smoked cisco. Jeff enjoyed the playful association, bringing one of his favorite subjects into an arrangement that hints at water without containing it. Cold metal and shimmering scales give the painting its contrast.

Fish on Tin returns to his enduring interest in the relationship between silver and gold. The combination gave him room to intensify those qualities and search for brushstrokes suited to them. Its pleasure lies both in the unlikely pairing and in the visible possibilities of paint.
