Game Table

Game Table began with a pheasant. Jeff saw the bird as a regal presence and chose the objects around it to strengthen the bronze and russet of its plumage. Copper, wood, and the varied surfaces of pots and pans each offered a different complement or contrast.

The arrangement follows the Dutch tradition of painting game among the abundance of nature. It presents a feast before cooking begins, with attention held on the relationships between color, texture, and sheen. Jeff's alternative title, Table of Complements, describes the care behind that gathering.
