Garlic
Jeffrey T. LarsonPresented by Objet
Purples and grays were the beginning of Garlic. Jeff approached their relationship as he imagines a musician might bring instruments together, listening for the qualities each gives the other. The papery skins offered a subtle range of hue, value, and intensity.
The subject remained close to the familiar character of garlic, its dry wrapping and the sharp scent of a freshly split clove. Yet the painting's purpose was already present in the meeting of those two colors. For Jeff, a visual relationship can be enough to sustain a painting on its own.
