In the Light of Life

Styrofoam had fascinated Jeff for years before he found a way to bring it into this still life. Its patterns and a particular effect of light gave him a place to begin. After months of work, the painting was accomplished, but he felt it still lacked the quality that had first caught his attention.

Then his perception changed, and he saw a spectrum of color spreading across what had appeared white. He spent several more months repainting the work in response to that discovery. In the Light of Life records a breakthrough in seeing, pursued through the limits and possibilities of paint.
