Morning Reflections

Many mornings begin for Jeff with a walk to the place where the river meets Lake Superior. The shore changes continually as the lake moves sand, sometimes closing the river mouth until the rising water finds a way through. Morning Reflections comes from one of those mornings, when the water stood completely still.

There was no ripple on the water that morning. Jeff recalls wet sand, driftwood, and birdsong around the river mouth. The painting holds that calm within a shore Jeff knows is always changing.
