Opal Under Trellis

At the end of Jeff's road, Lake Superior leaves driftwood along a sandy beach. Over many years, his neighbors have used the pieces to shape a garden, working with the natural form of each one. Opal stands beneath one of their trellises, unhurried in the dappled green light.

The garden provides food for the family and flowers for a salve they make. Jeff sees its beauty as inseparable from the way it was built, accepting what the lake and the wood offered. Opal Under Trellis brings that relationship with the natural world into a quiet moment within it.
