Outboard

An old boat motor caught Jeff's eye from the back of a passing truck as he drove toward his atelier. He followed through one traffic light after another, trying to get the driver's attention. When the man finally stopped, Jeff offered to buy the motor and was told he could simply have it.

Outboard began with that unexpected gift and the fascination that made Jeff pursue it. The motor's colors and worn presence prompted him to imagine fishing trips, summer mornings, and the people who might have used it. Those possible lives remain questions, part of what made an old machine worth bringing back to the studio.
