Three Velasquez

Three faces from paintings by Velázquez look down over three cream pitchers. Jeff arranged each vessel as a quiet counterpart to the person above it, a simple form holding more than first appears. The pairing brings his admiration for Velázquez's craft into a reflection on the lives of those he painted.

Jeff values the meeting of exceptional skill and artistic vision, and sees both in Velázquez. He also responds to the force of personality carried in these portraits of people whose lives were often judged through their stature. Three Velasquez honors the possibility of living to one's own measure, rather than accepting the limits others impose.
