Tuba Girl

An old tuba in an antique store caught Jeff's attention with its dents, warm patina, and lingering polish. He bought it expecting to make a still life and tried arrangement after arrangement. None satisfied him, and the instrument remained in his studio for years.

The solution came when he began to imagine that the tuba still had music left in it. Drawing on his interest in paintings of a single character, he gave it a barefoot young musician in a sailor's cap. Tuba Girl brings the well-used instrument into a new encounter, with a player ready to carry it forward.
